Together, we’re building the feminist future
The economy has so many parts — and An Economy of Our Own makes micro-and-macro economics more personal, exciting women’s curiosity about a forbidden, intimidating realm, and instead inspiring confidence and new ideas, or sometimes reclaiming lost history.
We’re encouraged by the ways we’ve empowered women to learn about and engage in economic transformation. But there’s so much more to do.
Like you, we’re looking at our budget and building a future. We know we’ll only be able to expand our resources and make them more widely available with your help.
Most of our alliance work is done by professionals providing pro-bono services, as advisors and including those experts who join our Zoom of Our Own conversations. We value their generosity, stretching our tiny budget. But this isn’t a sustainable model, and changing the economy’s purpose is a long-term project.
This past year’s work was made possible by those volunteers and 134 gifts from our Giving Circle that ranged from $5 to $100/month. The average annual gift size was just $31 — and yet look at all this accomplished! To expand next year’s offerings during 2024’s pivotal year, we’ve set a goal of raising $47,500.
If you can afford a monthly gift of $10 or $20 or even $50, please consider joining our Giving Circle this year. You’ll be invited to share your own values and interests that will help guide us. And if you’re already in our Giving Circle, please consider increasing your gift during this critical year, if you can, to help us widen our capacity and our outreach.
You can also dedicate a special AEOO gift to a woman you love, one who deserved or deserves more from this economy than she’s gotten. With your permission, we’ll post her memory and your message on our website.
Our Giving Circle is an easy way to regularly invest in women’s economic voices. Imagine what women, united, and talking together with confidence could bring about. We’ve demonstrated they already are making change!
But although we know it’s a season of giving, we’re aware it’s also one of tight purse strings. That’s why I wanted to share some ways you can help us meet our 2024 goal, even if you’re short on cash.
- Sign up for our free newsletter and share it with friends and workmates! The more people who know about An Economy of Our Own, the bigger our movement. (And when you get an email about our fundraiser, you can forward it to someone who may be able to give.)
- Dedicate a fundraiser on Facebook or Instagram to @EconomyofOurOwn…
- …And share our social media posts about our fundraiser on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to help them go further!
- Send a Zoom of Our Own recording from our Resource Library to your group chat. Encourage folks to tune in, read its resources — and stay in touch with us.
- Join our whole-hearted team. Volunteer to help us with committee work, digital expertise, and grant writing.
It will take all of us to make the feminist future take shape — and we’re heartened to have you in the AEOO community. Here’s to doing all we can, in this coming year and the many to come, to make possible what we know is necessary.
